Feeling overwhelmed? Read this.

It can be so easy to get overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done.

Whether that is a physical task like a big project at work, sorting your house out, planning a big party, or a personal goal like getting fitter, losing weight and getting stronger.

Here’s what helps when I feel like giving up…I just ask myself, what can I do TODAY?

I think the overwhelm is created because we often look too far ahead. It’s great to have an end goal in mind, but don’t focus on it as it can simply feel too bloody far away and totally unachievable from where you stand now.

Overwhelm can demotivate you, especially if you are having a low day and it all feels like a bit too much effort. It can cloud your judgement and render you almost useless and leave you wondering how the hell you are going to make any progress when any oomph you had has gone, along with the hope you had for achieving your initial goal.

Enter a fabulous quote!

“Clarity isn’t about knowing what you want to do with your life, it’s about knowing what you want to do this week.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to know your next step.”

Just take it a step, task, job or action at a time…knowing that you ARE making progress.

The beauty of this is that then you no longer need hope, as if you continue focusing on the small, more immediate actions, and keep repeating you will absolutely get to where you want to be!

I have been known to say on my socials “Hope gets you fuck all nowhere”, and it is true in this instance!

An example I would like to share is when we used to renovate houses with my brother and dad….the amount of work used to feel overwhelming. We used to do all the work ourselves. I still believe no one knows what being dirty is until you have taken down a Victorian ceiling!

I had days on my own sometimes, hammer drilling the rotten plaster off the old walls, knee deep in dust and rubble.

It sometimes used to bring me to tears as I just couldn’t imagine the finished product.

However I always used to tell myself that I would eventually be painting the new skirting boards, and that day will come.

Do you know what…it always did!

Just the reassurance to myself, to focus on what needed to be done that day, rather than in weeks or months time really did help.

Try applying that ethos to something that you may be struggling to imagine finishing or achieving.

If it’s your weight or health…don’t focus on the end goal weight…focus on what choices you can make TODAY…and celebrate those wins, because I promise they will all add up!

Hope that helps as much as it helped me.
